The software

Merge allows you to compare and use different versions of text files such as program source code and XML files. Merge can extract text from Microsoft Office and OpenDocument files, as well as PDF and RTF files. XML files can be shown with special formatting, helping you to see changes more clearly. It supports files with ASCII character encodings and MBCS.

It is easy to see similarities and differences between files by using a color-coded sideby-side comparison. The documents are linked by linking lines that clearly show how they are related.

Point-and-click merge allows you select the parts of any file that you wish to combine by clicking on buttons. The editor in-place with unlimited undo allows for complete control of the merged file while you are creating it. As the merge progresses, the text comparison display changes dynamically.

Merge provides detailed highlights of lines changes. It can also be set up to ignore whitespace or line endings differences and change lines that match certain regular expressions. This allows you to ignore important changes such a timestamp or expanded version controls keywords.
